Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendations for FY 2019 to Dr. Slingsby, Founder & Managing Partner of Catalys Pacific
Catalys Pacific is delighted to announce that, on July 16th, 2019, Founder & Managing Partner of Catalys Pacific, Dr. BT Slingsby, received the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendations for 2019 for the “promotion of international cooperation in the technical cooperation field” as Global Health Innovative Technology Fund (GHIT Fund)’s founding CEO & Executive Director.
Dr. Slingsby is commended based on his leadership in founding the GHIT Fund – a public private fund that invests in the development of Japanese innovation aimed to save lives in low and middle income countries worldwide. In 2013, his strong leadership materialized support from the Japan’s leading pharmaceutical companies, the Government of Japan and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. During his tenure as founding CEO and Executive Director, the GHIT fund secured US$350 million, deployed over 100 investments, and saw multiple development programs advance to achieve proof of concept via clinical trials in endemic countries.

Foreign Minister’s Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups with outstanding achievements in international fields to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries and areas. The Commendations also aim to promote the Japanese public’s understanding and support of the recipients’ activities. This year, Commendations will be awarded to 206 individuals and 63 groups residing both in Japan and overseas.
Dr. Slingsby commented that “It is a tremendous honor for me to be recognized by the Government of Japan for the achievements of GHIT and its contributions to global health using Japanese science and technology,” and also said, “I share this honor with the GHIT team, its members of the Council, Board, and Selection Committee along with my trusted advisors.”
